Chairman

A former senior executive with Hampshire County Council Social Services Department and head of services in North Hampshire.  A Medical Social Worker who has worked in clinical practice, research and university teaching in the private, voluntary and charitable sectors.  Other posts:  a non-executive on National Victim Support and a volunteer for VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas).

Rachel English
Treasurer

A chartered accountant and economist who has worked in both international development and the private sector.  She is the Chief Financial Officer of Gasol plc, an Africa-focused independent gas company;  previously she held senior positions at Shell, BG Group, the World Bank and The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Gordon Jones An experienced executive in optics including 16 years as Managing Director of Hydron and 9 years as Senior Vice President with Allergan. He now runs his own consultancy in strategy, marketing and qualifications development and is a non-executive director of the firm Mark'ennovy and the Heatherwood & Wrexham Park Hospitals NHS Trust
Ros Kirk A Dispensing Optician in private practice with her husband in Reading. She is former President of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.
Mike Morris

A lawyer who has worked in senior positions in the UK and Ireland in IBM, Motorola and Philips Electronics.  He is now General Counsel for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region of a joint venture between IBM and Ricoh.  He is a Chartered Secretary and a non-executive director of a housing association.

Sarah Moss

Currently the Deputy Director of Communications at RNID, the largest UK charity dedicated to changing the world for deaf and hard-of-hearing people.  A Marketing and PR professional with experience in international development and the voluntary, public and private sectors.

Rachel North An Optometrist who joined VAO in 1986 and has been on seven projects. She is leader of the Training and In Country Education Committee, member of the Overseas Project Committee and a former Chairman of VAO. Rachel is a Professor of Optometry a Cardiff University.
David Parkins

An optometrist who joined in VAO in 1993 and has led four VAO projects.  He is Treasurer of the College of Optometrists and a trustee of their benevolent fund. He is also Joint Chair of the Professional Executive Committee of Bexley Care Trust and works in independent and hospital practice in South East London.

Isla Richards Currently the Assistant Director of Fundraising at Moorfields Eye Hospital, where she works on a number of projects including the multi-million pound appeal to establish the world's larges children's ophthalmic centre. Experieince in both publishing and PR she holds an MA (Hons) in Mediaevel History. She is also a Trustee of the Friends of Princess Royal University Hospital.
Robert Venables A solicitor who was formerly Head of the Legal Department at the Charity Commission and a Charity Commissioner at Bircham Dyson Bell, a large legal firm based in Westminster. He has taken part in two VAO projects to Ethiopia.
